There are jokes about how to expeditiously put oneself into a wall that feature the Dodge Viper as the punchline. The Dodge Viper GTC is a punch in the throat to all those bad jokes, and we like that.
Jokes aside, the Dodge Viper GTC’s 8.4-liter V10 SFI engine is not just sublime but also an audible menace to the spine. Shivers spiraling up the vertebrae with every soaring rpm. The speedometer goes up to 220 mph, but I did nothing even close to half that.
The steering is sharp, but a bit of a handful on canyon roads. The advanced aerodynamics package ($4,800) helped keep us firmly planted to road. Sticky 18/19-inch staggered tires (front/rear) did exactly what they’re supposed to on sun-warmed pavement.
When I got to some straights, I unleashed the 10 cylinders, the horizon came quick and my spine turned to a tingling mass. The engine pumping out 645 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque.
It has leather and Alcantara suede and a uConnect 8.4 infotainment system. But you aren’t thinking of that while driving down the road.
Looking across the expansive hood hiding the V10 monster, you’re looking at the road and making sure you steer clear of bumps and waiting ready for the next opening on the straightaway.
